Conditions

Learn how to use Conditions to define which path Lindy takes in your workflow.

Conditions let you define different paths in your workflow based on specific criteria.

When to Use Conditions

Use conditions when you want Lindy's actions to vary based on the condition you define.

Example: if you only want Lindy to respond to emails where an emailer has proposed a question, the Condition prompt you would use is:

the emailer asked a question

You can add as many Conditions as you'd like, and define the actions that follow if the execution passes each Condition.

Lindy can only continue down one Condition path per execution.

If you define a Condition and do not add a step afterwards, the execution will stop.

Defining When To Respond To Emails

You can use conditions to specify how Lindy should respond to email.

In the below example, two Conditions are used:

To filter if an email received was asking a question and needs a response
To ensure Lindy only continues if she found an answer on the Google Document

Creating Conditions

Add a Condition by clicking the plus button (Add step) below any action or between two actions and select Condition.

Select the model that will interpret your condition, then define it using a "Go down this path if.." prompt.

Every condition prompt starts with "Go down this path if..."

For example:

- the email contains a 6 digit user ID number
- the emailer asked a question
- the user asked for a refund or seems angry

Here we are going to add a Condition prompt that instructs Lindy to continue if:

the email contains a 6 digit user ID number

This prompt will ensure Lindy only continues to proceeding actions if the email contains a 6 digit user ID number.

Defining When To Add a Human in the Loop

You can also use conditions to specify when Lindy should alert you.

In this example, a Condition is added after the Gmail Email Received trigger that states to "Go down this path if..."

the user asked for a refund or seems angry

After this, there is a Slack Send Direct Message action, that sends the user an alert with the emailer’s information to let them know about the angry email.

Renaming Your Condition

To rename your Condition, click the Condition title above the prompt and label it with a concise title to make it easily identifiable.
